Can pregnancy loss actually be prevented—and how do you know which factors are within your control?

If you’ve experienced pregnancy loss or you’re trying to conceive and wondering what you can do to reduce your risk, this question can carry an enormous amount of fear, pressure, and uncertainty. The difficult truth is that many miscarriages, particularly those related to chromosomal abnormalities, are outside of your control. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t areas of your reproductive health worth understanding and supporting.

In this episode, we explore the nuance behind pregnancy loss, including the role of the luteal phase, progesterone, implantation, and other factors that may influence whether an early pregnancy is adequately supported.

You’ll learn:

  1. Which factors surrounding pregnancy loss may be within your influence—and why even doing everything “right” cannot guarantee that a miscarriage won’t happen.
  2. How your luteal phase and progesterone levels can affect implantation and early pregnancy, including why timing progesterone testing seven days after ovulation may provide more useful information than relying on an arbitrary cycle day.
  3. When deeper investigation may be appropriate after pregnancy loss, including recurrent pregnancy loss, autoimmune factors, clotting concerns, uterine factors, inflammation, male factor fertility, and progesterone support.

Listen to this episode to better understand pregnancy loss, identify the areas of your fertility you may be able to support, and move forward with more informed questions for yourself and your healthcare team.
